Hammam: a place for research and sharing
The hammam is a very ancient Moroccan tradition inspired by the concept of Roman baths. In fact, Moroccans talk about "doing the hammam", like Westerners talk about "taking a bath". But it’s actually much more. It’s a place of research, learning and sharing. Often you need to pull the plug, to remove stress by taking a break from the routine. The dream to try is a hammam escape between exfoliating treatments, aromatic baths and relaxing massages, surrounded by the scents of essential oils and enjoying the pampering of well-being typical of southern countries.
Wellness of the body between East and West
The ancient ritual of purification and cleansing of the body, perfectly combines the east with the west thanks to an excellent synergy between the perfumed essences and the delicate light of candles, for a dip in your time listening to the body. The hammam experience is considered a ritual of beauty and relaxation among the most sought after and widespread internationally, thanks to the many beneficial qualities that help to ward off the hectic daily
rhythms. Oriental practice should be a fundamental habit that allows you to stop and take care of mind and body.
Hammams in Morocco
In the hammams, in Morocco, men and women are usually divided; this allows them to strip completely or to remain with only their underwear.
To enter there is a basic cost that grows depending on the services required.Customers can bring from home a bag equipped with everything necessary for cleansing, shaving and drying. It is important not to forget a mat to sit down if the hammam is public. Following the reception, each customer is assigned a locker with a padlock in the common locker room to store personal items and valuables.
The architecture of beauty
The hammams are also recognizable by the structure; there are always washbasins, taps on the walls and marble beds. The larger ones also offer Turkish bath service with increasing temperatures. The heat has a very important function because it allows the skin to prepare for the ritual.
The Ritual: the Savonage phase
The first phase is that of savonage: therapists begin to treat the body of the client lying down with the typical savon beldi or savon noir, a natural soap based on olive oil. This allows the skin to soften preparing it for the next step: exfoliation.
The Ritual: the Exfoliation phase
With the help of the special glove kessa in viscose, you make a deep and vigorous scrub that takes away all the impurities by reactivating the circulation. After rinsing with plenty of warm water, proceed to the third stage: Tabrima treatment.
The Ritual: Tabrima treatment
A mix of beneficial herbs with purifying and lightening properties, mixed with water and black soap. The mixture is then massaged on the body with enveloping maneuvers and left on for ten minutes. After the last rinse the skin will be smooth, compact, detoxified and totally renewed. For the face are used delicate peelings based on Rhassoul, a particular saponiferous clay of ancient origin extracted from special underground mines in the Atlas mountains, in Morocco. Used by Eastern peoples as an ally of health and beauty, it has always been used for the preparation of the hammam and spa. It has cleansing and purifying properties that make it a perfect product for a gentle cleaning of the skin, because not sticking it retains its natural oily film.
The Ritual: relaxing massage
At the end of the ritual, the client can take advantage of a relaxing massage performed by expert therapists with the precious argan oil.
